Prof. Dr. Anna Veneziano

Anna Veneziano is Professor of Comparative Law at the University of Teramo, Italy (until 2012, Director of Department of Private Law) and Professor of European Property Law at the University of Amsterdam (UvA), in The Netherlands. Currently she is on leave and serves as Deputy Secretary General of the International Institute for the Unification of Private Law UNIDROIT (Rome).

She studied law at the University of Rome La Sapienza, Italy (with a period at the II University of Hamburg, Germany). Subsequently, she obtained an LL.M. degree at the Yale Law School, CT, United States, funded by a Fulbright scholarship (1992-93) and took a PhD degree in Comparative Law at the University of Florence, Italy. In 2008 she was awarded a research scholarship by the Max Planck Institute for Foreign Private Law and Private International Law in Hamburg, Germany.

She has been invited to teach courses at several universities (among others Würzburg, Germany (1993-2006); Paris II (2009); Trento, Faculty of Economics, EMBS course on European and International Commercial Law (2007-2010); Florence Summer School, Penn State Dickinson Law School, course on International Sales (2006-date).

Professor Veneziano was a member of the Italian delegation with respect to the 2001 Cape Town Convention on International Interests on Mobile Equipment and the Protocol thereto relating to aircraft collateral (2001) as well as the Protocol thereto relating to space assets (2012). She was a member of the Study Group on a European Civil Code (2001-2009), of the Compilation and Redaction Group on a Draft Common Frame of Reference on European Private Law (DCFR) and of the Expert Group set up by the European Commission for the redaction of a common European law on sales (CESL) (2010-2012).

Professor Veneziano has written in the field of international and European contracts and sales law, as well as secured transactions and international insolvency. She coordinates the Advisory Board of the Uniform Law Review/Revue de droit uniforme and is a member of the Board of “Il diritto del commercio internazionale” and of the “European Review of Property Law”.

Professor Veneziano is a member of the Arbitration Chamber of Milan (Italy).
