Professor Dr. iur. Matthias Weller, Mag.rer.publ.
Professor Matthias Weller is holder of the Chair of Civil Law, Civil Procedure Law and Private International Law at EBS Law School.
Matthias Weller studied law in Heidelberg and Cambridge. He completed the first examination in law in 1999 and the second examination in law in 2001. Following this Matthias Weller worked as research assistant at the Institute of Foreign and Private International and Commercial Law (under Professor Thomas Pfeiffer) at the University of Heidelberg and as research assistant for Professor Achim Krämer, lawyer at the Federal Court of Justice in Karlsruhe.
Supported by a doctoral studies scholarship from the German National Academic Foundation, he earned his doctorate at the University of Heidelberg with his thesis "Ordre-public-Kontrolle internationaler Gerichtsstandsvereinbarungen im autonomen Zuständigkeitsrecht", which was awarded the Rolf and Lucia Serick prize in 2004 and the Klaus O. Fleck prize from the Chamber of Industry and Commerce (IHK) Rhine-Neckar in 2005.
In 2011, he gained his professorial qualification (Habilitation) at the Law faculty in Heidelberg with his thesis "Persönliche Leistungen" and presentation "Rechtsfindung und Rechtsmittel: Zur Reform der zivilprozessualen Zurückweisung der Berufung durch Beschluss". He was awarded the permission to teach (venia legendi) in the subjects Civil Law including Private European Law, Private International Law, Comparative Law, Civil Procedure Law and Copyright Law.
